Unusual hamered late in the day for your perusal, any help with an identification would be appreciated.
I have never seen a key next to the shield and there doesn’t seem to be a portrait.
Spink has 2 similar coins with the 2 keys under the shield –
Number 2262 – Henry VII (1485 – 1509) Minted at York by Archbisop Bainbridge
Number 2263A – Henry VII
I have also seen a Henry VIII with the keys – also York mint
I think Spink 2262/63A are Halfgroats with the king’s portrait on the obverse
Rich’s coin looks more like a Henry VII Penny (Spink 2235-38) also minted at York, but by Archbishop Rotherham.
All the best,
Hi Rich, sorry but I know nothing about hammered coins. Just wanted to say hello and well done. Hope you manage to get an ID.
